Legislation that would offer tax credits to reimburse employers who give employees paid leave to donate an organ or bone marrow has been approved by the Senate Finance Committee. Bill sponsor Rep. Bob Godshall(R-Montgomery) said that if people know their job and livelihood are secure, they will be more likely to take the time to donate the organ or tissue necessary to save lives. The Pennsylvania House Finance Committee recently approved legislation to offer tax credits to reimburse employers who allow workers to take paid leave in order to donate an organ or bone marrow to someone in need. Bill sponsor Rep. Bob Godshall (R-Montgomery), who was the recipient of a life-saving bone marrow transplant in 2005, said his bill removes one of the key financial hurdles that may deter healthy individuals now in the workforce from participating in a life-saving organ donation program.
